It has been a very quiet morning here at the bookstore. I am wondering where everyone is. They day started out misty and sticky, but the sun is out now. I like to stay busy at work since it makes the 8 hours go by quickly. I could be at home packing. Taking Thelma for a walk.
~~~ Books I am currently reading... "I Love Everybody (And Other Atrocious Lies) by Laurie Notaro
"Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim" by David Sedaris
"Phantom Tollbooth" by Norton Juster
~~~~~~~~~~~ Watched "Calander Girls" last night. Very fun. I love Helen Mirren and Julie Walters. The whole cast was great. I even got teary eyed. (Okay, so that isn't such a big suprise)
~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I thought I had something else to write, but it vanished from my head. Maybe I will remember it soon.
Sitting at my desk attempting to get motivated... not working, but I am eating Mike and Ike Fruit candy... Now with more fruit juice flavor!! I am sorting them out by color... eating red first, then the pink, followed by lemon, lime and orange. I am not hopelessly compulsive... I am doing it by the handful... not the whole box. Does that count for anything?
k
P.S. it is actually cool in my office today... had to put a sweater on. It must mean the world is ending.....
Here are a few more pictures... I really need to get out shooting again. Maybe Sunday I can get out for a few hours. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :)
Because my brain is not in the condition to find anything to write about this morning here is a brake down of what I sold at art fair... and because I am a bit obsessive at times a list of what I still have. Which shows me I really need to find a life.
Started packing last night, but then I ran out of packign tape. So far so good... just packing up books and the like. Lucikly I get to rummage at the bookstore for good book boxes. You don't want them too big because then you can't lift them. Moose had fun jumping in and out of some of the empty boxes... which made me laugh a lot. Which is more than I can say about the movie "Rundown" which was playing while I was working. I laughed a few times, but what could I really expect from an action movie? I will just say this one was okay.
Last night on the bus when I was dragging boxes home there was almost an altercation. This guy got on at the Homeless Shelter, he looked at the back of the bus and laughged. SOmeone who got on at the Transit Center asked the driver why he was letting "this scum" on the bus. At first I thought it was a joke, but he kept repeating it. In this lispy voice, so it was hard to take him seriously. The driver told him he would need to watch his language. Of course my least favorite bus passanger, and former library patron, had to ask "WHy? WHy is he scum?" I was getting off the bus and the lisper did the same. He was all flustered. It was very strange.
Well, I need to get back to Aleph... my brain hurts, btw.
Well, the good news is I did not repeat the shoe fiasco again today. Actually most of the day is good. I slept well last night. It was almost like fall. I had to put another blanket on the bed... This is a major deal for me... I am always too hot. It isn't fun. I am going to be hell to be around when I start getting hot flashes. Yowza. I am feeling a bit off kilter today, not in a bad way, just sort of like a Picasso painting if that makes sense.
I was going to post my art fair statistics, but I left them at home, so they will have to wait. I know you are dissappointed, but one day isn't that long. Maybe I will post a few more pictures.
Tonight I am going to go home and start some major packing. I have to stop by the store and pick up some plastic baggies for all my jewerly stuff. The loose beads is going to be a pain in the ass. Especially since Moose has to be on the bags or the beads. *lol*
I am thinking I should have stayed in bed this morning. My alarm went off and it was so gray and nasty out I decided I needed to sleep for another half hour. About 15 minutes in I hear a crash... still haven't figured out what fell. I let Thelma out, but because it was raining she barely set a paw on the wet grass. I fed her and Moose and went back into my room to get stuff ready for the day. I hear another crash... this one sounding like the newly opened bag of cat food. It was... all over the floor. Luckily I caught T before she ate too much. This gave me 20 minutes to shower and make myself presentable. I had to bring stuff in for my boss which was a bit cumbersom... so with my purse and umbrella I must have looked really silly. The best part is when I got to work and I realized I put on a brown shoe and a black shoe... same shoe just different color. *sigh* I feel like I am fall apart. and it isn't even half way in to my day yet. I don't have enough vacation time saved to go home either.
Hello all... I will try and write more soon, but for now here are some shots of my jewelry displays from Art Fair. Not the greatest quality, but I did the best I could. :)
Well, I made it through the first day of art fair. I didn't do as well as I would have liked, but I am not complaining. It was almost 90 with lots of humidity... my least favorite weather. It is still hot, but the air isn't as thick. It is a good thing I don't take any negative comments personally. And people's suggestions as to what I make are pretty funny. Lots of fun fashion no nos. I have to get back outside, but I wanted to say hi.... hope everyone is having a good week.
I finished another round of movies. I am sure my dvd player is screaming for a vacation. Here are a few more mini movie reviews... not 2 thumbs up crap for my readers. I just tell you what I thought, but leave it up to you to make up your own mind.
1) Lewis Black Unleashed... very funny man. This is 4 of his Comedy Central half hour shows. It has my all time favorite "If it weren't for my horse/Aneurysm" piece. Of course I tend to like L.B. when he swears... and since these were done for cable there is little swearing... but it was still enjoyable
2) David Cross Let America Laugh... another funny man, but not a very funny documentary. This was a doc about David's comedy dates. Just left me feeling like I should take a shower. I would recommend his stand up, but not this film. But I probably would recommend his stand up to everyone.... only a select few.
3) Pirates of the Caribbean ... Need something I knew would make me laugh. This was it. I have seen it several times and I just love Johnny Depp in this movie.
4) Lion King 1 1/2 ... okay I was weak. Actually this was sort of cute. Not great, but fun. Gives you the back story of Pumbaa and Timon.
5) Camp .... indi film about a drama/singing camp. Great concept and their were some fun moments, but I kept wanting more. All the kids were great... some amazing singers, but I really only enjoyed the show moments.
6) Standing in the Shadow of Mowtown .... by far the best film of the bunch. A documentary on the Funk Brothers who played most of the music for Mowtown in it's Detroit days. If you love Mowtown music this is a great movie. I had no idea who these men were. But I will never hear songs of this era again without thinking of them.
Well, I may be movied out.... as I was making my way in to town I saw all the tents going up. My space is near the food court so it is going to be elephant ear time!!!! I will try and log on at some point to say hi and let you know how it is going. Send me some good luck vibes my way. This is where I start to get nervous.
Oh my is all I can say... I mean spandex really isn't very flattering for anyone.... k
From the Ann Arbor News......
Man in Superman suit attacks motorists
A group of men stopped their car to talk to friends outside an Ann Arbor home Sunday morning when a man dressed as Superman suddenly jumped into the car and started punching them, city police said.
Two men, ages 21 and 23, suffered minor injuries in the fracas, reports said. The 21-year-old suspect, wearing a red spandex Superman costume, was arrested near a home in the 600 block of Church Street.
The victims said they pulled to the curb when they saw some friends, and the suspect jumped into the back seat and started throwing punches, reports said. The victims said they got out, people from the house party came toward the car, and a large street fight broke out, reports said.
No one was fighting when officers arrived, but two witnesses were able to show digital pictures they took of the suspect, police said. Officers then saw him in the crowd and arrested him, police said. The suspect was released pending assault charges.
Just came downtown to meet my friend Thea to do some beading at the pub. Who knows maybe we can sell something while we sit there. So far today I have made 16 bracelets and 2 necklaces. Yikes!
On my way downtown I saw my Running Man.... actually, he is more like the shuffling man. He always wears the same too tight spandex pants that come down just above his knees. No shirt, so as he runs the other way I get to see his crack. He also has rather large man boobs *shudder* I want to tell him he would have more luck walking than running at the pace he goes.
I also got to witness some fun fashion choices. A elderly woman got on the bus wearing a beige knit cap, a royal blue velour dress and white tube socks with blue bands. And there was also a guy wearing a safari hat and shell necklaces and a leopard print smoking jacket. Just makes you wonder sometimes....
Well, off to make more jewelry. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Another Saturday at the bookstore. Just killing some time until I have to open the store. Eating an onion bagel with cream cheese and drinking a diet coke. I knew you would all want to know all the details.
Finished another 666. Here are the movies and a short review.... Kate style.
1) Phone Booth .... Liked the concept. The sniper's way of talking annoyed me though.... and it didn't feel like he was on the phone. Still it was entertaining.
2) Duets.... bad bad bad. The only enjoyable part was the singing. I didn't expect it to be good, but I didn't think it would be awful. Yikes!!
3) 28 Days ... have seen before just needed to round out the 6. Great cast.
4) Death to Smoochie... I enjoy this one and have seen it several times. But it isn't for everyone.
5) Practical Magic ... Maybe I should have tried to make it a Sandra Bullock 666. I have never tried doing one with just one actor. I enjoyed this, but liked the book better. And Diane Wiess is just great, but then she usually is.
6) Singing Detective w/ Robert Downy Jr. probably the most bizarre of the group. Still not sure what I think of this one. I think I will wait until I see the BBC mini series before I make a decision
On my lunch break I am going to get another 6. Hopefully there will be some better ones this time.
I am sure I am going to have more to add to this list after Art Fair, but this is a start.... in no particular order
1) Hot weather... even worse if it is humid.... which it always is in Michigan.
2) Listening to other people's bad music as it is blared out of crappy car stereo speakers
3) Yard work... not that I have to do it anymore, but I remember well having to mow a huge ass lawn as a teenager and it scarred me.
4) People wearing clothes that they shouldn't. This goes from too tight non existant shorts and skirts to men without shirts to big girls in clothes that show off every roll. Even worse is matching short and shirt sets in some horrible pattern.
5) Buses where the air conditioning doesn't work. Can you say stinky????
6) How your legs stick to leather, pleather or plastic seats.
7) Did I mention the heat? I really hate being sweaty.
Okay, I am done complaining for now.... Is there anything you don't like about Summer?
Just on my lunch break... having a meat pie and hummus. It is quite yummy. Not much going on here... I have been talking with my mom about how I can get a car for when I move. My stepdad is going to cosign with me which makes it possible. He also gets a great discount because he works for Saturn. Not sure what kind of car I am going to get... but sometime in August I should have a car... for the first time in 4 years. Think of all the trouble I can get into. :twisted: So pray that I do well at Art Fair so I can put a good sized down payment.
I only have to finish out work today and work Friday and Monday and then I am "off" for a week. Lots of stuff to get together and organize. I am starting to get an anxious stomach.... Once it starts I will be okay.
Only a week until art fair... and I am already exhausted. Lots of strange dreams that I don't remember, but call recall thinking wtf. I reset my alarm while half asleep thinking to get 20 more minutes. Instead I set it for 9:20 instead of 6:20. Luckily Thelma and Moose were chasing after each other so I didn't really fall back asleep.
My brain is mush from trying to figure out the new Miryln (the system I do all my exciting library work on). There are so many bugs keeping me from doing what I need to do. But I guess that is to be expected. I am just whining. Please bear with me.
Morning. The new system at work is up and running... which means I am currently trying to wade through the backlog. It is a bit frustrating because they are still trying to get some of the bugs out. Plus it is like going from driving a Pinto to a BMW.... takes a bit getting used to. I need to get back to work, but I wanted to say hi to everyone. I hope my brain isn't too much like tapioca before the day is over....
Wow! I survived the wedding and more family time than I would have imagined possible. No real horror stories to share. The dress managed to stay up, but it was too hot for the tape to work. I think the biggest problem with this wedding was the lack of communication between everyone. It was very frustrating. But I never have to do it again..... One nice thing Nicole did was buy flip flops for the brides maids so we could take out dress shoes off after we got to the reception. And since I was wearing shoes I bought the morning of the wedding it was pretty thoughtful. This weekend has just solidified my belief in eloping. I am so not a big wedding kind of girl. My brother looked really happy though, which is what matters. Hopefully I will get some pictures to show you soon. I didn't take any, but many people did.
I managed to get a lot of shopping in this weekend. I now own summer clothes... hasn't happened in many years. I sent my mom off at 3 and managed to take a nap. Now I am downtown trying to catch up on 4 days of email. It is a bit frightening. I still need to go find something for dinner.
Sunday my mom and I went out for breakfast and were sitting in the lobby when this guy asked about my tattoo. Well, seeing as how he was cute and I hadn't flirted in a while I turned my back on my mom figuring she would understand. She did, but had to tease me about it. Anyway, while we were talking he told me I was beautiful. I was feeling pretty cute that morning. Of course he lives out of state, so it was just a fun flirtation.
Well, I am going to go look around for a bit and then go get some food.
I am going to be gone for a little while. Not sure how I am going to be able to cope with out blogging for the weekend. I hope you all don't miss me too much. :D Have a great weekend. I am sure I will have fun wedding stories to share.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - A man accused of grabbing a 9-year-old boy, carrying him behind a Kroger store and stealing his socks has been arrested on kidnapping and robbery charges.
Maurice C. Teague told officers he has more than 500 pairs of children's socks.
Investigating officers said they couldn't confirm the number but said they found "a lot" of socks at Teague's home, police spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio said on Tuesday.
Police said Teague, 28, accosted the boy Friday evening and dropped a piece of identification as he fled. They arrested him at his home on Sunday, Mercurio said. He's jailed on $75,000 bond.
"It's odd, obviously — someone going after little boys' socks," Detective Guy Patete said.
Police said the child was on his way home from the grocery around 6:30 p.m. when Teague asked to buy his socks for $5. The boy refused again when Teague offered him $10, and Teague picked him up, ran behind the store and pulled the boy's shoes and socks off his feet.
Police said the boy picked up Teague's identification and his mother called police. Teague, who has no criminal record, at first denied the account but then admitted grabbing the boy, police said
Went shopping last night. Managed to find shoes, make up and earrings for $60. Not a bad deal. I have to wear the shoes around the house tonight and tomorrow to make sure they are broken in a bit before the wedding. I have added to my wishes for the wedding. Not only to hope I don't flash anyone, I hope that I don't trip on the way up the aisle. I made my soon to be SIL, the bridesmaids and junior brides mades bracelets. I am not sure if we will wear them at the wedding, but I figured it was part of me being the better person.
There is so much to do in the next couple days I am a bit overwhelmed. I am not going to push too much. Because then I will just say forget it and start making jewelry again. Which wouldn't be all bad, but it wouldn't be all good either.
Well, we have our new system up soon, so I might be MIA for most of today. Wish me luck.
I just got off the phone with my mom and am a bit frustrated. I can't really give you all the details, but she is always telling me that I have to be the better person and apologize even if I have nothing to apologize for. Why do I have to be the mature one? I am just very frustrated right now and have no way to get it out of my system. Why is it that some people can go through life being sensitive and the rest of us have to coddle them? And then you find out a year later that something you said hurt their feelings. I am sorry, but I have a hard time remember what I said yesterday, how am I supposed to remember something from so long ago? I am really close to throwing a tantrum, but I will do what my mom asks and be the better person. Fuck.
It is so humid this morning that walking to work felt like I was swimming... and not in a good way. I guess there was a storm last night because my clock was flashing when I woke up. Luckily I am paranoid about oversleeping and I set my cell phone alarm as well as my regular alarm. There were lots of tree branches littering the sidewalk. I started to wonder how I missed the storm. Normally I wake up if my fan stops, so maybe it was only for an instant. I hate oversleeping.... the day is always off kilter if I do.
I have so much to get done in the next 2 days. I have lots of last minute wedding stuff to get. Shoes, make up and other things I would rather not spend my money on. I also have to clean up the house for my mom's visit. I also have to get Thelma's stuff together so Lynne can take her for the weekend. I have to remember to get a copy of my apt key so I can ask a neighbor to look in on Moose. I wish there was a double I could have fill in for me.
I am just very thankful our new library system will be up Thursday. I don't do well trying to look like I am busy. Anybody have some suggestions as to what I can do? Remember my computer is in full view of everyone. *lol* I am trying not to be tempted by online shopping. It is a good thing I still have wedding stuff to buy otherwise I would be shopping for non essentials.
Morning. I hope everyone had a restful weekend. I really didn't want to come back to work today. But I have Friday off and part of Thursday too. I spent most of yesterday sitting on the couch watching movies and trying not to injure myself with jewelry tools. Here are the movies I made it through.... 1) Pieces of April ... made me cry, was one of the best of the bunch 2) Chasing Liberty... not great, not awful. Has Jermey Piven which is always a plus. 3) Hollywood Homicide .... kept forwarding through 4) Spellbound .... wonderful documentary 5) Badass Cinema ... documentary on blacksplotation films 6) Escanaba in da Moonlight ... fun, but not sure many will understand it
I guess I get to go get another 6 tonight... :D Any suggestions. Only stipulations... no subtitles or need to watch what is happening closely.... since I will be making jewelry while watching. Prefer light hearted and silly.
Morning. I am writing from a secured location. Well, actually it is the public library, but a branch I don't normally go to. I hopped on the bus to go buy double stick tape for the wedding. I guess I should have called first because they were closed for the holiday. But I ate breakfast at McD's... which is one of my guilty pleasures. I don't do it often, but am always happy when I do. And since the library is in the same area I decided to check my mail and post this entry. So, count your lucky stars. :D
Well, Saturday I went and saw They Might Be Giants at the Power Center. Great show. The openning band was one of the best I have heard. They're called Common Rotation. And for you Buffy fans the lead singer was Warren in seasons 5 and 6. They were just a lot of fun. When I have some extra cash I will be picking up their cd. TMBG were great as always. One of the things I love about their shows... okay, I have only been to 2, but still... is that their audience is very eclectic. The woman next to me was pushing 70, but she was dancing around. If you put her up front with the high schoolers you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It was just very cute. I want to be her when I am 70.
Yesterday was spent up at the Lake with Lynne. Somehow we managed to fit 2 humans and 4 dogs in her Jetta. On the way up there THelma had to sit in my lap. Luckily on the way home she would sit in the backseat. It was a nice relaxing day. I even got into my swimsuit, which is a first in about 3 years. I didn't do much swimming. I sat on the beach with my floppy hat and made jewelry. We ate lots of good food and drank strawberry margaritas. I am feeling pretty mellow this morning. Which is good since I feel a little foolish for not calling the store before coming over. At least now I know where it is. :D
Well, I think I am going to go catch up on some blogs.
Well, I am justing sitting on my break eating vegetable samosas, garlic naan and rice pudding from Shalamar. It is quite lovely. I am also drinking IZZE sparkaling lemon drink. Not a bad lunch all in all. I am trying to branch out and try new things... Things are pretty quiet here at the store. I figure most people left town for the weekend. Wish I could have, but I have time off next week for my brother's wedding. I did find out a store carries the double stick tape I want to hold up my dress. Don't want to flash anyone... at least not until I have a few drinks in me.
Well, it is almost time to go back to work. So, I will try to write a more exciting post later...
Not much going on here. I am glad that it is Friday. I was looking at my schedule this month and realized that I am going to be off a lot. It was pretty nice realization. Of course that time won't be spent lounging on the beach. But it will be all worth it when it is all over. I am just now starting to realize that I am not going to get all I want to done in time for art fair. I just have to accept what I can get done.
I got to talk to Gary last night. It was good to talk with him. He is still on his job search. I can't belive it will be too long before someone wants to hire him. He sounds like he is having a great time. Spending a lot of time exploring in the city.
Oh, and as a little suprise I had my 5 year pin for being at the U waiting for me on my doorstep last night. In some ways it is hard to believe that I have been in Ann Arbor for 7 years. And in others it feels like I have always been here.
Morning all. I was just poling around on Yahoo and saw this article on dog rentals in Japan. I think both sides raise some interesting points. I belive too many people get dogs without researching just what having a dog is going to require. So, in that aspect I think this is a good idea, but I agree that it isn't always the best for the dogs in question. I wonder how long they stay in service. What do you think?
