Things to do and not to do.
01.09.07 (9:04 am)   [edit]

Okay, working retail at the holiday time is bad for my "good will towards man" attitude. I am tired of the "ME first then you" attitude people seem to have. Especially when they are so blatant about it. I know that we tend to be a selfish species, I get that. But I don't get rude.

  • If you see someone juggling a package, hold the door for them.
  • Don't stand and talk for 15 minutes in front of the door to the store, so people have to suck their gut in to get by you.
  • If you see someone in a wheelchair trying to get off the bus get out of the way... you will get a seat on the bus, don't worry.
  • Don't use "my daughter has cancer" to guilt me in to giving you a cheaper price.
  • Don't tell me it only takes one good customer to make up for 10 bad ones... it is the other way around.
  • Get off the damn phone before you want me to wait on you.
  • Take your headphones out if you want  me to talk to you.
  • If you are going to walk slow... step to the side of the sidewalk.
  • If you are walking with your possee don't take up the whole sidewalk, especially when the ground is all muddy because of the insane amounts of rain we have been getting.
  • Just be nice... it isn't that hard to do.

With a lot of this sort of stuff, it's not even about manners, it's more just common courtesy.

You don't really have to open the door for people, although it's mannerly, but not slamming them in the face with it should just go without saying.

Don't forget, "just because you are carrying a pink, 'Thank You' bag, don't ram into to people."

I agree with every point on your list. I do all those things, but no one seems to do it for me when I'm serving them.
